NEW LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

During September 2021 we have a number of  Courses available at The Community Enterprise Centre
These are aimed to assist people into Learning, enable people to develop knowledge and skills and especially for those furthest from the Labour Market to enable them in their quest for Employment to get the skills and support to achieve this goal
Below are the courses to choose from:

Monday AM

Entry Level Functional English

For those progressing from ESOL and requiring foundational support in Functional English

IT for Employability

Specific support for people to master a level of IT to be able to complete a CV and undertake basic job search, suitable for beginners and those scared of computers!

Monday PM

Functional English Level 1

For those with a proficiency in English and need to move into the qualification levels working towards a Level 2 ultimately for employment etc

AAT Bookkeeping Level 1

For people looking at a career in Bookkeeping, Finance, Banking, Accountancy, this is a great starting point. Also, for people looking at self-employment as this course provedes foundational skills tht can be progressed within Administration and Finance careers

Essential Digital Skills

For those who have a proficiency in IT and want to learn to use the packages better working towards Administration Jobs and generally becoming skilled in Microsoft Packages, email and Internet

Tuesday AM

Functional Maths

For those with a proficiency in Maths and need to move into the qualification levels working towards a Level 2 ultimately for employment etc

Customer Service

A popular course for anyone going back into employment and wanting to get an advantage in their CV to get that job. A core employability skills and work place skills development accredited course

ESOL Level 1 and 2

This course runs on a Tuesday AND Thursday morning so attendance for two sessions is required. For those progressing from ESOL Beginners and wanting to develop their skills more – COURSE ALMOST FULL!

Tuesday PM

Functional English Level 2

For those with a proficiency in English , having gained their Level 1 qualification and need to be working towards a Level 2 ultimately for employment etc

Business Administration

This is a NEW course running this Academic Year at The Community Enterprise Centre and is a great foundation for people wanting to work in an office, general distribution etc where Admin and Organising skills are required. Also great for people looking at Self Employment to ensure they run their Business efficiently!

Introduction to the CARE Sector

This is a foundational course for people wanting to work in the Health and Social Care Sector and provides a good grounding to progress through the various qualification levels up to Level 3

Introduction to Mental Health

This is a foundational course for people wanting to understand Mental Health issues and seeking to work in the Health and Social Care Sector and provides a good grounding to progress through the various qualification levels up to Level 3

 

Looking Back – Moving Forward!

Since May 2018 the Centre have been able to host a range of learning sessions including English Language Skills and Digital Skills.

As from September 2021 the Centre will be hosting an additional range of classes including:

Functional English

A functional English class will build your confidence in how to use English in all aspects of everyday life.

The course will cover:

  • Writing documents On complex subject by hand and electronically
  • Communicating both individually and within a group
  • Understanding and following written instructions
  • Accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Formal letter writing
  • Writing an email
  • Reading and summarising information succinctly from different sources

Functional Maths

Joining a function of maths class will build your confidence in how to do maths in all aspects of your everyday life.

The course will cover:

  • Handling large numbers and calculation skills – For when there is no calculator to hand
  • Calculating using fractions, Percentages and decimals – To help you to handle money.
  • Measuring perimeters and areas, Working out sizes of objects or spaces – For all those DIY and gardening jobs.
  • Reading and interpreting tables, Grafts, Charts and other numerical data – To ensure you do not get misled by statistics.
  • Calculating simple probability.
  • How to use a calculator and to check your answers.

Digital skills

This is an introductory course in basic digital skills in ICT.

The course will cover:

  • Familiar with different it devices – Managing/UsingA variety of devices – PC, Laptop, Tablet and mobile phone.
  • Internet safety and security – Personal controls, Password protection and virus checking.
  • Website searching – Search engines, Comparison websites, Bookmarking useful pages, Social media sites and Internet auction sites.
  • Email – How to send, Received and read messages video calling and social media.
  • Financial – Secure websitesPersonal data and Internet banking
  • Applying for jobs email alertsUploading CDs and downloading the job application forms, Universal credit job searching job centre and the social housing websites.
  • Task project presentation – And of course project to showcase your competence in the skiers you have learnt.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

An ESOL Course can help you to improve your speaking and listening reading and writing skills.

You will develop vital abilities which will have you in everyday life – Making it much easier for instance for you to talk,  to doctors and teachers, To help your child with their homework and to understand the laws and customs of the UK.

Classes are usually small with approximately 10 learners or working in a friendly and relaxed environment.

JOIN OUR JOB CLUB, FRIDAYS DURING TERM TIME!

The Community Enterprise Centre has been running a pilot Back to Work Club over the last few months

Nina, our Job Club Contact, from Community Action, Derby, has been in contact with a number of people, here at the Centre. Clients aged from 16 years plus, received much needed support with their CV’s, advice and future work goals

One to one in person contact, has proven to be vital for individuals on a weekly basis. From this club individuals can be referred into other appropriate programmes if required

It has been an encouragement to find out that through the Back to Work Club at least 3 clients had found new work to suit their employment needs
